Orwell… 1984…Macintosh…Information Society and “Thinkpol”

1984 has a special place for me…
I see as the beginning of information society,
I mean after governments, brands and companies, I see 1984 as the ground breaking year for the start of individual globalization.
Because in January 6, 1984 Macintosh launched desktop computer. Here was Macintosh, while were living the ages of where only a selected few with credentials got education and had a chance to touch a computer; and for the technical capabilities of our laptops today, almost a coliseum size space was needed.
Everybody was going to have a computer at their desks.
Everybody was going to be able to reach out to any information; they needed at any place of the world just in seconds.
Without any time limits…
Without a special training…
Macintosh, icon of desktop computer, had an informative advertising movie named 1984…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8

It was shown right in the middle of Super Bowl which is USA’s most expensive time slot where all American’s tune in.

A 60 second film…
Only was able to shown once…
Because producer Apple couldn’t afford it for one more time…

Advertising was inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 book

The film was explaining how Macintosh had a ground breaking moment in “Oceania” when in the future world “big brother” managed all areas of life, not human conscious but totalitarian pressure and a version of truth was adapted; humans turned into robots.
When books were hidden behind brick walls, “Thinkpol” was acted as adapting all the expectations of “big brother”…
When even love was forbidden…
In a society, where thinking was banned…
Film ended with how Macintosh was a part of society and slogans of “Why 1984 will not be 1984”.
In a moment…
Everybody from ages from 7 to 70… Started to own computers. Hands were shown… Mysterious relationships behind doors were in public, one by one…
Once a “Thinkpol” was unemployed now…
Gladios, Berlin and Wall Street walls were demolished.
Dirty underwears were started to be thrown into garbage bins instead of laundry bags…
The power of humanity behind a computer, won against the ones pulling tricks behind everybody’s backs.
Humanity was in search in the 20th century for the values that they had been swept under the rug.
And…
All this happened in 10 to 15 years…
How come I recalled 1984 Macintosh advert, now?

Great article. It’s very unfortunate that over the last ten years, the travel industry has already been able to to handle terrorism, SARS, tsunamis, bird flu, swine flu, as well as first ever true global downturn. Through everything the industry has proven to be effective, resilient as well as dynamic, acquiring new strategies to deal with adversity. There are always fresh difficulties and possibilities to which the sector must all over again adapt and act in response.
